Mission Hills Restaurants, What do You Think?

Nestled next to Starbucks on West Washington a new restaurant has opened called Olivetto’s.  Rumored to be owned by the owners of Aqua Blu and Bella Luna.  Old World and upscale at the same time, it seems to be a nice new addition.

We had a beet salad with salmon (ok) and pasta al pomodoro (great) which  was more food than needed.  The menu doesn’t include descriptions, so it is advisable to ask what is offered.  In addition to wines there are  peach-mango bellinis, Moretti lager, and Moretti Rosso.

If you are not much of a carb eater, no fear, there are lots of entrees ranging from seafood to meat, osso buco to veal:)

Have you tried this Mission Hills location?  What do you think?

I have been to Olivetto a few times and have found it to be good one time, just OK another time and not great at all yet another time. I had salmon once tha was very good. Then I had eggs benedict the second time which were OK and the last time I ordered salad with salmon, which wasn’t so great. The last time my party and I sat for quite a while without menus and water and we finally had to ask for them. Consistently, on each visit, I found this restaurant to be kind of cheap about putting bottles of olive oil and vinegar on the table for the very good bread they serve as a starter – however, once I had to remind them to bring the bread. They bring out the olive oil and vinegar on a little plate and if the party needs more (we did each time) we have to ask for it and they replenish on the plate, not leaving the bottles, which most restaurants do. I had more hopes for this restaurant since the one it replaced, and Phil’s are now gone and I can’t recommend The Gathering at all. I hope Olivetto gets consistently better. The potential is there, so hopefully they’ll work on it.

I really WANTED to like this neighborhood spot!
But it is a WINE BAR and the one time I went in….the red wine was tepid.
Here’s hoping the competition from Red Door makes them step it up a notch!
